Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about the Youth Summit programs? Look here for answers! If you can’t find the answer to your question, feel free to contact us.
How long are the summer programs?
Our main program lasts 9 weeks and is called the 40-Day Mission. We also offer a 6-week program, which is ideal for students attending SAU for Smart Start, and a 3-week Junior Experience, which is a great introduction for new canvassers. All programs take place between June 1 and July 31 each year, regardless of the day of the week on which those dates fall.
Do students work in pairs?
Students may request to work alone or in pairs from day to day. Most students prefer working alone because it allows them to maximize their earnings. Others enjoy working with a partner and splitting the day’s earnings. Both options are welcome.
Do we have any days off during the week?
Yes. Sunday is not a workday, and Sabbath is set aside for worship and fellowship. Our leaders also prepare fun and engaging activities for Sunday afternoons, providing a balanced and enjoyable summer experience for the entire group.
How are the sleeping arrangements handled?
We stay in church facilities, where students sleep on personal air mattresses and use sleeping bags. Boys stay under the supervision of the male leaders, and girls stay under the supervision of the female leader.
How is food provided?
The program provides breakfast every day throughout the summer.
Students are responsible for purchasing their own lunches, which are often inexpensive options such as Taco Bell. In the evenings, we provide some simple food as well, but breakfast is the main meal provided by the program.
Can students receive money during the summer?
Yes. Each student can receive 5% of their weekly total donations to help cover lunch expenses and trips to the laundromat. We recommend that each student bring $150 in cash at the beginning of the program to help cover initial expenses.
How much does the average student make?
Students receive 50% of their respective sales. For the 9-week program, beginning canvassers typically go home with approximately $4,500 in earnings.
How old do I have to be to canvass with Youth Summit?
Students must be between the ages of 16 and 25 to be accepted into Youth Summit.
May I go home during the weekends?
Students are required to stay with the team on the weekends to participate in team activities and church programs.
Can students on student visas participate?
No. We do not accept students who are in the United States on a visa. Students with green cards or valid work permits are exceptions.
Where is the money sent at the end of the summer?
Your paycheck is sent directly to your school. For homeschooled students and students who have already graduated, the paycheck will be sent to their home address.
How does the scholarship match work?
At the end of the program, you must present your final paycheck to the financial office at your academy or university. Because each school may have different requirements and procedures, we recommend contacting your school’s financial office for specific information about how to receive your scholarship match.
Where are the program locations?
We stay in and canvass in major cities throughout Georgia, including:
- Atlanta
- Columbus
- Savannah
- Augusta
- Macon
Every other year, we also work in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Can I request to be at a certain location with my friend?
Yes! Once you have been accepted into the program, you may submit location requests. However, because we have to carefully balance each team and location, we cannot guarantee that every request will be granted.
Will we have time off to go home during the summer?
No. This is designed as a mission experience away from home while serving in the homeland. It is an ideal opportunity for students who are considering future gospel ministry or service and want to gain practical experience while serving others.
